Hello, my name is Shaylisa Crawford and I'm a visual artist and illustrator from Maryland based in Saint Louis, Missouri. I work primarily with watercolor, colored pencil, and ink but I enjoy trying new forms of media to explore creativity. Through my art, I love to encourage and provide viewers with a sense of peace and joy. I like the idea of my art contributing to someone's happiness or stillness as they go about their day-to-day life.
What Inspires Her:
Music:
If I could write a love letter to music, I would, and maybe I should because that's how much I love music. Through life's ups and downs, the healing power of music has always helped, and I oftentimes get inspired by lyrics and will be moved to create art from it.
Flowers:
I enjoy looking at God's creation of flowers and what I love even more about flowers is that they have meaning. I will often include a flower in my art as a connection to the emotion of the piece.
Life:
Life can give you so much material. Whether it be from your own experience or observing others. And I think through observation you can find what people need more of in the world and I've found that the most common answer always comes back as joy. And that's one emotion I hope my art evokes.
